When to Wash Your Face After Microneedling?

Microneedling is no joke. Yes it can do wonders for your skin but only if precautions are taken and the after care is right.

If you are someone who is going for microneedling for the very first time and are skeptical about its precautions that are before care and after care tips, you have just landed on the right page.

I am here to share with you all the basics of microneedling, how to take care of your skin before microneedling, the precautionary measures and the after care of your skin.

When to Wash Your Face After Microneedling

What is microneedling?

Microneedling is the process of increasing the collagen and elastin production of the skin’s cells so that your skin looks smooth and firm. Microneedling includes the usage of thin needles to puncture on your skin that helps to increase the skin’s healing power.

Precautionary measures to be taken before microneedling:

Initially you are hurting your skin needles in microneedling and that’s not just anything less serious. So you need to be very careful about your skin and treat it well before the procedure.

Here are some Do’s and Don’ts prior to microneedling:

The 10 Don’ts of microneedling:

  1. Do not use any steroids on your skin 7 prior to microneedling
  2. Do not use chemical peels from 15 days prior to microneedling
  3. Do not shave or wax or scrub your face from 5 days prior to microneedling
  4. Do not bask in the Sun for 2 days before microneedling
  5. Do not take any alcohol 48 hours prior to microneedling
  6. Do not overexert yourself on the day you are going for microneedling
  7. Do not apply retinoids 3 days prior to microneedling 
  8. Do not take blood thinning medicines from 7 days prior to microneedling
  9. Do not apply makeup from 2 days prior to microneedling
  10. Do not undergo laser treatment 15 days prior to microneedling

The 5 Do’s of microneedling:

  1. Drink lots of water from 15 days prior to microneedling
  2. Moisturise your skin well 
  3. Do face yoga to increase the blood supply to your facial muscles
  4. Spray your face with cool mist or water to keep the face sweat free and refreshed
  5. Wash your face with a gentle skin cleanser before you go for the microneedling procedure

The first 48 hours after the microneedling procedure is vital. Your skin needs to rest and breathe and return to its normal state. You will notice many changes on your skin post microneedling which are normal like peeling of skin, dryness, burning sensation, etc.

Therefore, you need to take utmost care of your skin during this period.

  1. Do not touch your face or apply anything 6 hours after microneedling
  2. Splash your face with cool water after 6 hours
  3. If you feel some burning sensation, you can turn on the AC to the coolest temperature or else splashing cold water will help
  4. Wash your face with a gentle moisturising cleanser only after 24 hours after microneedling
  5. Moisturise well
  6. If your skin feels irritated, coconut oil massage might help
  7. Coconut oil will help to moisturise the skin and get rid of the dry flakes of the skin that come out after microneedling
  8. Drink lots of water to stay hydrated
  9. Avoid going out in the Sun for 48 hours
  10. You can only begin your normal skin care regime once your skin feels normal but not before a week
  11. Avoid using makeup for a week
  12. Incorporate hyaluronic acid in your skin care regime as that will help to restore the skin’s moisture balance

How to wash your face after microneedling?

Your skin will be irritated after microneedling. So be gentle with your skin and give it ample rest.

You cannot go without washing your face for days. But not before 24 hours of the procedure. Yes, you can only wash your face with a gentle cleanser that is moisturising after a day of microneedling.

While splashing cold water after the microneedling procedure is recommended as your skin feels irritated and has a burning sensation, but when you wash your face with the cleanser, make sure you use a little Lukewarm water. That will help to relieve the pain and also help with flaky dead skin cells.

Microneedling is an excellent procedure that helps to make you look younger while eliminating all wrinkles, loose skin, spots and scars from your face.

But everything comes with a price and that price is getting hurt during microneedling and the after discomfort that lasts for at least a week.
