Why Do I Breakout When I Wash My Face?

Wondering why washing your face is breaking you out when it should give you a clean and clear skin on the contrary!

Let me explain to you the reason behind it……

Washing your face will break you out when you use the wrong product. That said, every skin is different and each face wash is designed to suit a particular skin type. First of all you need to understand your skin type and know what it needs to get cured.

Why Do I Breakout When I Wash My Face

For instance, if you have acne prone skin or oily skin and you are using a face wash that is meant for dry skin, you are sure to break your skin out.

This article will help you understand your skin type and choose your face wash accordingly so that your skin does not break out.

Know your skin type/what’s your skin type?

Skin types are classified into the following categories:

1. Dry skin type:

Dry skin type

Dry skin is associated with no oils on skin that leads to dry patches, dry flakes on the skin and can be itchy or stretchy.

2. Oily skin type:

Oily skin type

Oily skin is associated with greasiness on skin. When you wipe such skin, it will leave behind cast of oil on the tissue paper or cloth. Oily skin is sticky as the sebacious gland continuously secrets oil and transport it to the surface of the skin. Oily skin can lead to acne or pimples.

3. Acne prone skin type:

Acne prone skin is associated with having red bumps on the skin that is painful. Acne might be hormonal (that will go away with age) or it can just be your skin type that will stay with you forever.

4. Combination skin type:

Combination skin type

Combination skin type is the one that combines both dry and oily skin.

Wondering how that is even possible! If you have oily T-zone (the area around the centre of the forehead, the nose and the chin) and the rest of the face is dry (your cheeks, eyes the sides of the forehead) then you definitely have a combination skin type.

5. Sensitive skin type:

Sensitive skin type

Sensitive skin type means whenever your skin is exposed to a foreign element, it will breakout. If you try any product or a natural home remedy and nothing suits you, your skin gets even more irritated with those products, know that you have a sensitive skin type.

These are the basic skin types and your skin will definitely fall under one of the above mentioned types. Now when you have known your skin type, let’s proceed to selecting the right face wash for your skin type.

Why does my face break out when I wash it?

Your face wash is probably breaking you out because you are using the wrong face wash that isn’t for your skin type.

That said, if you are using a face wash that contains hyaluronic acid for your oily skin type, it will definitely break you out. Similarly if you are using a foaming face wash for dry skin type, it is again going to break you out.

Choosing the right face wash for your skin type

1. Face wash for dry skin type:

For dry skin, you need to look for face washes with hyaluronic acid, glycerine, milk, oils like jojoba oil, argan oil, vitamin E squalane that will add some moisturisation to your skin. Oil based face washes or water-based ones should be good for you.

2. Face wash for oily skin type:

For oily skin, you need to stick to only water-based based or foaming face washes. The top ingredients for oily skin are citric acid, vitamin C, niacinamide, aloevera, glycolic acid, rice extract, etc.

3. Face wash for acne prone skin type:

For acne prone skin, face washes with the following ingredients are the best: Benzoyl peroxide, nicotinamide, Alpha hydroxy acid, zinc, salicylic acid, azelaic acid, tea tree oil, neem extract.

4. Face wash for combination skin type:

Combination skin is a bit dicey. If you go for oily skin face washes, you will end up drying up your already dry areas and if you opt for dry skin face washes, you will end up making your T-zone more oily. So, it’s better to go for face wash for normal skin and then apply a serum for the problem areas.

5. Face wash for sensitive skin type:

Face wash for sensitive skin should contain calming ingredients like cica, aloevera, rose water, panthenol, cocamidopropyl betaine, sodium hydroxide, sodium benzoate, propylene glycol, etc.

See you soon!

Using the right face wash for your skin type is very important or else you will never overcome breakouts. Still, if your skin breaks out even after using the particular face wash designed for your skin type, you should consult your dermat.
