Curling Iron Curls Vs Straightener Curls: Which is Better?

The world is going gaga over curls and why not? Who would not love a full volume hair that looks gorgeous and uplifts the entire look?

Blessed are the ones who have natural curly hair, but what about the rest who have straight hair but want to enjoy those curls on special days? Or what about the ones who can’t afford or don’t want to spend thousands of bucks on doing a permanent curl (perming)?

The solution is a curling iron!

But wait…..

What about a straightener for curling your hair? Is that even possible?

Curling Iron Curls Vs Straightener Curls

Let me tell you, yes it’s absolutely possible to get those breathtaking curls with your straightener too!

Now the question remains: which is better?

Curling iron curls or straightener curls?

While you can achieve any type of curls with a curling iron, there are some gorgeous curl types that can be achieved with a straightener too!

Can you curl with a straightener/flat iron?

If you think you can only straighten your hair with a straightener, my girl, you are very wrong. The good news is, you can do some fabulous curly hair styles with a straightener!

But since curling with a straightener can cause creases, you need to choose only those straighteners that have curved edges and do not pause while curling a lock of hair.

You can create loose to medium to tight curls with straighteners having varied widths. For instance wide straighteners are to be used to create those beachy and loose waves, medium width straighteners are to be used to create big bombshell curls and bouncy curls and thin width straighteners can be used to create ringlet style curls.

Types of curls that can be achieved with a straightener

There are in fact a number of curl types that can be created with the help of a straightener, let’s have a look at them:

1. The spiral curls

Spiral curls

This type of curl is mostly done when you want to do an updo. You need to start with a small section of hair and wrap it round the flat iron.

Flip the end section of hair and then gradually move it down. While you move down the flat iron remember to hold it in a vertical position. Voila you are done.

2. The beach waves

The beach waves

This is a loose wavy curl and the best curly hair look that can be achieved by a straightener. For this take a thick section of hair and place the root section of the hair in the flat iron.

Now twist the iron in the inward direction and start heating. You can make multiple twists for achieving tighter curls or make minimum twists for loose curls.

3. The crimped curls

Crimped curls

This is real fun and easy to do. Just take small sections of hair and braid them separately. Your head will be full of braids now (LOL) sounds crazy? But the real fun begins here.

Now all you need to do is run the flat iron like straightening your hair through each braid and then untie the braids to get all crimped hair!

Pros of curling hair with a curling iron

1.) Curling irons are easier to work with to achieve curly hair

2.) Curling irons are great for beginners who are new to curling

3.) Curling iron have clamps in them so that you can make the desired curls and clamp it and you do not have to hold the section of hair while curling

4.) Curling irons give more defined curls and hold them in place neatly

5.) There is no chance of creasing with curling iron

6.) The curls will look polished with no flyaways

Cons of curling hair with a curling iron

1.) You can achieve only one type of curl with a single curling iron of you so not have the interchangeable wand ones with different diameters

2.) Single size barrel curling irons will only give you a particular type do curl

3.) You need to wrap each section of the hair round the barrel of the curling iron which definitely takes a lot of time and patience

Pros of curling hair with a flat iron

1.) You can use a single straightener or a flat iron for creating different yof curls

2.) The heat distribution in flat iron is even so the curls hold longer

3.) A straightener has ceramic or even keratin coating in it which makes your hair frizz free while styling

Cons of curling hair with a flat iron

1.) You need a lot of practice and expertise to create curls with a straightener

2.) The curls created with a straightener will not be so smooth and defined like that of a curling iron

3.) There will be creases on the curled locks while you style them with a flat iron

Which is better for curls? Curling iron or straightener?

The truth is, the choice is entirely yours as both have their own advantages and limitations.

If you are a beginner, curling iron will help you make curls easily while with straightener you need to have a lot of practice.

If you want a defined curls that stay distinguished from one section of hair to the other, you should use a curling iron because straightener will give you a messy looks with curls.

If you want freestyle and a more casual look with curls, a straightener should be your choice.

See you soon!

Whichever heat styling tools you use, whether it’s a curling iron or a straightener, your curls won’t last long if you don’t secure it with a hairspray. And also do not forget to use a heat protectant spray because using any of these heat tools.
