Do All Koreans Have White Skin?

We all have Koreans with white flawless skin. And there has been multiple researches, posts and videos on the white skin of the Koreans.

But is that the reality?

Do all Koreans have white skin?

Or are they stereotyped as one!

To know the actual facts, I started conducting my research on……

What is the real skin colour of Koreans?

And after a lot of reading I found my answer in the journal of the “International Journal of Multicultural Education” titled:

“Understanding “Koreanness”: Racial stratification and colourism in Korea and Implications for Korean multicultural education.”

According to this journal, the actual skin colour of Koreans is somewhat yellow to red toned.

And that answers the question for this article that not all Koreans do not have white skin. There are many Korean celebrities with darker skin tones and a good number of population who do not have white skin at all.

Do All Koreans Have White Skin

Why are Koreans obsessed with fair skin?

This traces back to the history of the Koreans. A majority of the Korean population were farmers who worked in the fields and got tanned.

They were differentiated from the upper class elites who stayed back in the office or inside buildings and had white skin. Therefore, over the course of time, most Koreans obsessed over white skin in order to portray themselves as upper class citizens.

The Royal beauty had women with white skin only because they did not have to got out in the fields to work. Over the course of time, the beauty standards in Korea became such that only white skinned women were considered beautiful. As a result, people from all sections of Korea dreamt of having that white skin to be considered beautiful.

How do Koreans have white skin?

You will get the details of this answer in my post (how to make your skin white permanently like Korean). Yet, I will tell you about it a bit in this post as well.

Korea is the storehouse of natural ingredients when it comes to skin care. They believe in putting all natural elements of nature on their skin.

  • Rice flour and fermented rice water are their staple for brightening their complexion
  • Lime is another agent that helps to brighten their skin
  • Honey is used by the Koreans to moisturise their skin and also make it youthful
  • Green tea is used to treat inflamed skin and also moisturises the skin and makes it radiant and reverses sun damage
  • Other ingredients used by the Koreans are liquorice extract, propolis, centella asiatica, mugwort, snail mucin, bamboo extract, ginseng, birch sap, tremella mushroom, etc.

Alongside using these ingredients they follow skin care routine religiously. Some extra things only Koreans do take care of their skin are:

1.) Triple cleansing

Yes, the Koreans follow a 3 step cleansing process wherein they first cleanse their skin with a wet tissue, then with an oil cleanser and at last with a water based or a foam cleanser.

2.) Exfoliation

Koreans believe in exfoliation

The Koreans believe in exfoliation to keep their skin youthful as this takes out the dead skin cells from the skin and provides a younger looking skin. For this, they use a microfiber cloth and dip it in water. Then they gently scrub their face using the cloth that takes off the dead skin cells.

3.) Essence

Essence is the next step to serum which we do not follow in general but the Koreans do. Essence is packed with hydration to make the skin supple and is very lightweight that soaks into skin easily.

4.) Sheet masks

Sheet masks

Sheet masks their staple and they swear by it. They use sheet masks to lock in moisture, making the skin supple and brighter.

5.) Less makeup

When you already have great skin, what do you need makeup for? And that’s the reason why Koreans use only fewer makeup products because they do not have many flaws in the skin to hide.

And lastly, there is yet another speculation over the white skin of the Koreans and that’s do Koreans bleach their skin?

Yes, since white skin is worshipped by the Koreans and not all of them white skin, they consider skin bleaching to be the easiest way to achieve that white skin.

See you soon!

Not all Koreans have white skin and it’s not possible for the entire population to have the same white skin because each individual is different and has different melanin content in their bodies.

Several other factors like sun exposure, diet, health, genes, etc play important roles in deciding the complexion of individuals.

But yes, if you take care of your skin with all heart and soul, you can definitely achieve a good and healthy skin.
