Why Do Koreans Have Good Skin?

K-beauty has been ruling the world winning hearts and mesmerising everyone. And the one thing that is hard to resist is their flawless skin or better called the “glass skin”.

I can’t lie, I myself am obsessed with the Korean glass skin and so have done thorough research on the core of their secret to this skin type!

My research was mainly focused on “why and how do Koreans have good skin?” And that’s what I am gonna share with you today in this post!

Why Do Koreans Have Good Skin

Wanna know the secret to Korean white and glass skin?

Let’s delve deep……

What made Korean skincare so popular?

The terms “Korean glass skin” and the “10 step Korean skincare routine” were coined in the year 2015.

Thanks to social media (Tiktok, Instagram, etc.) that brought out their beauty into notice to the whole world and in no time people were going crazy over their flawless and white skin.

People were curious to know whether it was some media filter or their real skin. And when the Koreans realised their craze in the world, they started coming up with videos about their skin care and cosmetics and that’s when they brought to the world their 10 step Korean skin care routine which is considered the secret to their glass skin.

What is the secret behind Korean skin?

Today the secret behind the Korean glass skin is already revealed to the world and that’s their 10 step skin care routine.

But do you know what makes Korean skin different from others?

It’s the ingredients that marks the difference in the Korean skin care products and cosmetics.

The Times of India reveals some core ingredients that are being used by the Korean skin care world:

  • Alternative animal ingredients
  • Alternative natural ingredients
  • Green tea
  • Donkey milk
  • Volcanic scoria
  • Pig collagen
  • Snail mucin
  • Starfish extract
  • Bee venom

Reasons why Koreans have good skin

In my research, the first thing I found is: they consider their skin equal to health and take care of it as a ritual. They concentrate more on skincare than makeup. They believe beauty should be from within and not artificial with makeup.

1. Skincare is more important than makeup:

They believe in the ancient philosophy of staying youthful with age and keeping artificial beauty at bay.

If you have seen videos from Korean women in YouTube, Tiktok and Instagram, you will know, they use only minimal makeup and no heavy foundation and concealer to hide their flaws because they don’t have any.

Skincare is crucial to them and they follow the 10 step skincare routine about which I will discuss below.

2. They use only natural ingredients in their products:

Korean skincare product ingredients

The Koreans use such ingredients in their products which the world has not even thought of. Some of them include snail mucin or slime, bamboo extract, bee venom, honey, pig collagen, donkey milk, starfish extract and green tea has been their staple.

3. They eat a lot of green leafy veggies and boiled food:

Again if you have come across their videos from the internet, you would know that thaur diet mainly consists of green leafy veggies and food that are only boiled or raw.

Seldom you will find them using oil to fry their food or even cook their food. Gut health and oil free food is the core to healthy skin.

4. They follow a 3 step cleansing routine:

While we only cleanse our face with a face wash once to remove dirt and makeup, the Koreans instead have a 3 step cleansing routine.

Firstly, they use a wipe to remove the surface diet and makeup, 2nd they remove the diet from pores with an oil cleanser and 3rd they use a foaming face wash or a powder face wash that scrubs the dead skin cells and everything from the face.

5. They add layers of moisturisation to their skin:

We all know that moisturising is the key to soft, bouncy and supple skin. But one thing that we fail to understand is that a single layer of moisturisation is not enough for the day.

The Koreans first use a serum specific to their skin concern, then they add an essence that’s a light moisturisation and soaks into the skin and lastly they add a thick layer of moisturisation to seal everything within.

The 10 step Korean skincare routine

I am not going to detail about the steps to you as you can do it as you like, but I will mention all the steps for you so that you don’t miss on any:

  1. Cleanse your face with an oil based cleanser
  2. Cleanse your face with a foam based or water based cleanser
  3. Use a gentle exfoliating scrub to eliminate the dead skin cells
  4. Apply a toner to seal the pores
  5. Apply an essence to hydrate and speed up the skin cell turnover
  6. Apply a skin concern specific serum to correct dark spots, blemishes, hyperpigmentation, wrinkles, etc.
  7. Put on a sheet mask to lock in moisture and hydrate your skin
  8. Apply an eye cream to correct puffy eyes, dark circles, wrinkles, crows feet
