What is Essence in Korean Skincare

So are you ready to discover all about essence?

Let’s go…….

What is an essence?

An essence is a skincare product which is watery in consistency with high concentration of active ingredients that helps sipping hydration into the skin and transforms the overall health of the skin and also aids the next skincare products to enter deep into the skin and work in a better way.

The main purpose of essence remains providing intense hydration to the skin and thus making the skin soft, supple and bouncy.

What is an essence made of?

If you are new to essence, you should first of all know what you are going to apply to your skin and that calls for what is an essence made up of?

An Essence is the combination of any of the following active ingredients:

1. Water:

Water serves as the base of all essence in which all other ingredients are mixed in.

2. Hyaluronic acid:

Hyaluronic acid goes next into essence as the main purpose of putting hyaluronic acid is to provide intense moisturisation to the skin and thus replenish the hydration content of the skin.

3. Glycerine:

Glycerin is yet another active ingredient that helps to provide nourishment and moisturisation to the skin and make the skin soft, supple and glowy.

4. Vitamins and minerals:

Vitamins such as vitamin E helps to provide moisturisation, vitamin B helps to regenerate the skin cells and vitamin C helps to brighten and improve the elasticity of the skin. Minerals too, play specific roles in boosting the skin in its own way.

5. Other ingredients such as snail mucin (in Korean products) and plant extracts such as Jeju, Gotukula, aloevera, cica:

All the above-mentioned derivatives or by-products of the plant extracts aid the skin in specific concerns, the main purpose still being hydration and improving the overall health and barrier resistance of the skin.

What are the benefits of using essence in skincare?

An essence can do much more for your skin besides providing hydration like:

  • Essence helps in better penetration of the next skincare products like the serum, the moisturised and the sleeping mask
  • Essence will help you bring back the elasticity of the skin
  • Essence will help your skin absorb all the essential ingredients from the rest of the products
  • Essence will help your skin to regenerate
  • Essence will help restore the barrier resistance of your skin
  • Essence will help your skin to balance its pH level
  • Essence will help your skin to become soft and bouncy
  • Essence will help restore the youthful glow to your skin
  • Essence will help your skin to revert the UV rays better
  • Essence helps to make your skin firmer
How to use essence on your skin/face?

The essence does not need to be rubbed on the skin or massaged. An essence is supposed to be gently patted on the skin. Remember you do not need plenty of essence thinking that would be even better for your skin.

Instead, you just need 2 to 3 pumps of the essence to spread on your entire face because essence is always water-based and hence spreads easily across the skin.

Once you have applied the essence, wait for at least 5 minutes before applying the next skin care product. This time would be dedicated for the essence to sip into the skin and work its wonders.

When to incorporate essence in the skin care routine?

An essence has its own sequence in the skin care regime which is as follows:

1. Cleanser:

First of all cleanse your skin to get rid of any dirt or germ. If you have makeup on, double cleansing is a must.

2. Toner:

The next step is to use a toner, to close your pores and make the skin firmer.

3. Essence:

Essence comes in the 3rd step of your skin care routine after the application of the toner.

4. Serum:

Once the essence is absorbed into the skin it’s time for the serum to enter into your skin.

5. Moisturiser:

The last step is moisturisation, wherein all the other products get locked into the skin along with the moisturiser working its way into the skin.

What are the side effects of using essence?

To be very honest, there are no downsides or disadvantages of using an essence on your skin. An essence should be completely safe for you because it does not contain many chemical products but only active ingredients derived from plants.

Yet, if you are sceptical and bear any allergy towards any particular skin care ingredient, it’s better for you to check the ingredient list of the essence you are planning to buy.
