Why is My Face Still Dirty After I Wash it?

If your face is still dirty after you have washed it, are you really washing your face the right way?

Your face is still dirty after you have washed it because you have not washed your face the right way and with the right products.

While double cleansing or triple cleansing is required for a complete clean up of your face, you must have washed your face only once with a foaming face wash which isn’t enough for removing all makeup, dirt and grime from your face.

Many of us make the mistake of choosing the wrong product or just washing once with a single product that isn’t enough to take off the dirt from our face and as a result we are left with a dirty face still after washing.

My Face Still Dirty After I Wash it

So, I have made this comprehensive guide for you that will help you wash your face the right way to get rid of oil, dirt, makeup and grime and get a clean, clear and refreshing face!

Let’s begin……

3 Steps to Complete Face Wash

As I have mentioned earlier, using only a single foaming or a water based face wash isn’t enough all the time, especially when you sweat a lot and also when you are wearing makeup.

You need 3 different face washes to remove all these 3 impurities from your face and it’s a little hard work that you have to put in order to get a clear, oil free and refreshing face.

Let’s us now have a look in details on all these steps one by one:

  1. How to remove makeup from your face?

Removing makeup should be the very first step in your skincare regime. Makeup nowadays are matte base, waterproof and some with silicones that give you that glowy or dewy look.

A water-based face wash or a foaming face isn’t enough to remove makeup thoroughly. In order to remove every trace of makeup from your face, you need to follow the steps below:

  • Begin with a makeup removing wipe:

Remove makeup from your face

Wipe your face off with a makeup removing wipe. This will take off the extra makeup and surface dirt from the face and leave you behind with kohl marks and lipsticks and mascaras.

  • Apply oil based cleansing balm:

An oil based cleansing balm is one of my most loved products in my skincare routine. I love how effectively it helps me to dissolve all the waterproof makeup from my face including matte lipsticks, foundations, mascara and even every trace of Kohl on my eyes.

Apply oil based cleansing balm

Just take out a generous amount of the oil based cleanser from the tub and massage your face gently working on areas that have stubborn makeup marks (like the eyes for the kohl and the mascara and the lips).

Then just splash normal water on the face to take off the cleanser. Your face is now almost clean, at least from all the makeup that you have been wearing the entire day.

  1. How to remove oil from your face?

Your face might now have some built in oil that might have settled on your pores which might later make your T-zone oily. For this the steps are pretty easy:

  • Apply micellar water:

Apply micellar water

Micellar water is another wonderful product that helps to remove both makeup and oil from the face. Note: micellar water is of two types: water-based and oil-based.

So, if you have already applied an oil based cleanser prior to this, I suggest you use a water-based micellar water now.

Take a cotton pad and pour some micellar water on it. Now wipe your face gently with the cotton pad. This will also help to remove any trace of the oil based cleanser you have applied earlier.

  1. How to remove dirt from your face?

After the removal of the makeup and the oils, your face is now almost a clean canvas. But you can still feel sticky because of the application of the previous products.

Now, you need something soothing and refreshing and to remove any particles from the face that might have settled deep within.

  • Apply a water-based or a foaming face wash:

The last step is to wash your face with a water-based face wash to be sure that nothing is left on your face and you feel fresh and clean from within.

Note: Do not forget to apply a hydrating moisturiser after all these cleaning steps because all your skin’s natural moisture and oils have been stripped off and the moisturiser will do the task of restoring them again so that your skin feels soft and supple.
